Cap Maison, St. Lucia:
July 16, 2010
A spicy holiday package
“Attention foodies: you can experience the best of the Caribbean’s spice-laden cuisine with a new culinary experience at Cap Maison,” recently trumpeted “The Informed Traveler,” an online guide to luxury travel. Other travel reports called Cap Maison’s culinary offering its “Deal of the Week,” and a “Smart Deal.”
Cap Maison is a secluded, stylish boutique resort located on an old sugar estate at St. Lucia’s northwest tip. It has serious credentials as a place for romance: One of this season’s episodes of ABC’s “The Bachelor” was set there.
But it was the headline about this special offer on Examiner.com that really caught my attention: “Toronto author’s new book ‘The Spice Necklace’ inspires island getaway package.”
It turns out that Cap Maison is offering a three-night “Spice Necklace Experience” package from now through December 18, giving guests a chance to create a “foodoir” of their own.
The package includes a personalized shopping tour of the Castries market (one of the author’s favorite island markets, I might add) with the resort’s executive chef; meals featuring “the array of island spices and fresh local ingredients that Vanderhoof deliciously discovers during her journey by sailboat,” and a complimentary copy of the book. And the deal-closer? “Cap Maison is even including the St. Lucian aphrodisiac cocktail the author refers to as ‘island Viagra.’”
Sounds like a great package. From this end, only one thing could make it better: An invitation to the author.
